This two-part report by ITDP India, developed in collaboration with the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), offers an in-depth look at how redesigned streets are performing and what more needs to be done for city-wide transformation.
Part 1: Impact Assessment
This section evaluates four redesigned streets—Wardha Road (Ajni Square to Rahate Colony and Vivekananda Square to Jaiprakash Nagar), Orange City Road, and Amravati Road—based on direct user feedback. Through on-ground surveys, it captures how citizens perceive improvements in walkability, cyclability, and safety. It reveals what successful redesigns can achieve and where gaps remain.
Part 2: Situational Analysis
This section studies seven streets, both redesigned and not, using a combination of design audits, observation studies, and citizen perception surveys. Each street is scored on a 30-point scale, helping identify critical safety and accessibility issues like missing footpaths, speeding, poor lighting, and unsafe junctions.
Together, both parts present a comprehensive picture—assessing not just outcomes, but also current conditions. The report provides the evidence base needed to guide future policies, street design, and investments for a safer, more inclusive Nagpur.
